Austin Independent School District has earned its first B accountability rating in four years, with district figures showing more campuses receiving higher grades than in 2024.

The 2026 ratings are based on student performance during the 2025-26 school year. Austin ISD reported that 61 assessed campuses received an A or B, compared with 43 in 2024—an increase of 42%.

Over the same period, the number receiving a D or F fell from 48 to 31, according to the district.

The Texas Education Agency released the statewide 2026 A-F ratings on August 14. Individual campus results can also be checked through the agency’s official accountability reports.

How Austin schools were rated

Austin ISD’s breakdown for schools completing the 2025-26 year was:

  • 28 campuses rated A;
  • 33 rated B;
  • 22 rated C;
  • 11 rated D; and
  • 20 rated F.

The district said improvement was particularly visible at Title I schools, which serve larger numbers of students classified as economically disadvantaged. The number of Title I campuses earning an A or B increased from eight in 2024 to 16 in 2026.

Title I campuses receiving a D or F fell from 47 to 30 over the same period.

Serious concerns remain at some campuses

The overall improvement does not remove the challenges facing lower-rated schools. Burnet and Webb middle schools received an F for a fifth consecutive year, which the district said could lead to future state intervention.

Austin ISD said it had changed leadership at both campuses and adjusted schedules to provide daily math and language-arts instruction. Six campuses rated D or F have also been consolidated.

Because of those previously approved consolidations, the number of schools opening for 2026-27 differs from the full group assessed for the previous academic year. The district expects to open with 57 A- or B-rated campuses and 25 rated D or F.
